EMDR & TRAUMA THERAPY — NASHVILLE, TN

Therapy for when memories feel like weapons

If your unprocessed distressing memories are still running the show in your day to day life, let’s chat. Together, we can work towards making you the showrunner of your life.

You’ve been in survival mode for so long, it almost feels life is supposed to be like this.

Except it doesn’t.

Maybe your history includes a compilation of distressing experiences in which you felt utterly alone, overwhelmed, and scared. Your system learned to protect you. You learned how to walk on eggshells, keep the peace, blend into the background so you aren’t noticed, make yourself so small, shut down your voice, and do anything you could to stay safe. Except now, the ways your body has kept you safe are no longer working. You feel hypervigilant when there is no identifiable threat. You feel terrified to speak up for yourself. You are always waiting for the other shoe to drop, even when you know you’re safe. And that gap between what you know and how you feel is so frustrating.

WHAT I NEED YOU TO KNOW:

You're not broken. You're not beyond help. Your nervous system learned to protect you — and it did its job. But now it’s time to teach your body that you’re safe now.

EMDR, or eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing, is an evidence-based psychotherapy that allows people to heal from their emotional distress and symptoms stemming from painful life experiences. Through this modality, we can gently help you reprocess and integrate those experiences and work towards a life that feels more aligned with who you are and what you know to be true.

Somatic and Attachment-Focused (SAFE) EMDR

Somatic and attachment-focused EMDR is a specialized approach to EMDR incorporating somatic exercises, bodily awareness, attachment patterns, and survival adaptations. It provides a gentler, body & mind integrated approach to healing from trauma, attachment wounds, and symptoms such as anxiety and depression.

HOW IT WORKS

EMDR is a therapeutic approach that changes the way traumatic memories are stored in the brain so that a person’s system can know and feel that the traumatic event is in the past and they are safe in the present.

Using bilateral stimulation (gentle eye movements, taps, or tones), EMDR activates the brain's natural healing process — similar to what happens during REM sleep — allowing traumatic memories to be stored in a new way. The memory doesn't disappear, but it loses its grip on your body and your present-day life.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Resource building (somatic tools) for emotional regulation

  • Bilateral stimulation (eye movements/taps)

  • Processing at your own pace

Everyone’s experience is different. Immediately after a processing session, some people may feel emotionally heightened or drained. Self-care and downtime is recommended post-processing.

HOW IT CAN HELP

  • Reduced distress

  • More positive view of self

  • Greater ability to connect with others

  • Greater self-empathy

  • Improved coping

As old wounds lose their charge, you'll begin to notice real shifts — in how you respond, how you relate, and how you feel in your own skin. This is where the freedom begins.
